Chandran Rasalingam, CHS
Chandran Rasalingam’s story of personal and professional success is one that reflects the trials and tribulations of the Tamil Canadian community. However, his story, like that of his community’s, is also one of triumph.
Born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, the now 38-year-old Rasalingam immigrated to Canada in 1992. Like many other Tamils who left Sri Lanka as a result of the civil war, Chandran faced various challenges settling down in a new country. He completed his secondary school education at Vaughan Road Academy and started working immediately.
A self-starter, Chandran eventually found his calling in the insurance industry, starting as a Financial Advisor at Sun Life Financial in 2003 where he spent almost 10 years rapidly climbing the corporate ladder to become an Associate Manager. Chandran also earned several industry awards and certifications including the Agency Builder Award from Gama International Canada (2012), the Top Advisor Award from the Million Dollar Round Table (2006), and the Certified Health Insurance Specialist designation (2006).
In 2012, Chandran decided to follow his entrepreneurial instincts and founded the iNFORCE Group of Companies to create greater possibilities for his clients and leave an indelible mark in the Canadian insurance industry. Combining the best of industry access with an expert team of talented and diverse advisors who are deeply connected to their multicultural communities, iNFORCE LIFe Financial Services and iNFORCE Health Benefits provides affordable, reliable and sustainable insurance benefits product and services for individuals and businesses. Within a year, these two companies have managed to capture 25% of the market and continue to grow at an impressive rate. Building on its reputation for honesty and excellent customer service, the iNFORCE Group is planning to soon launch two more ventures, iNFORCE Publications and iNFORCE Solutions, which will continue its successful track record of providing innovative business solutions that creates true value in the community.
Remembering his own struggles in Canada and the war-torn environment that he left behind in Sri Lanka, Chandran has also founded iNFORCE for Humanity, the philanthropy arm of the iNFORCE Group. His philanthropy efforts include helping support children with autism in Toronto, Canada (South Asian Autism Awareness Centre) and funding scholarships for schoolchildren in Kilinochchi, Sri Lanka. Also including helping build affordable housing in Costa Rica as a means of breaking the cycle of poverty (Habitat for Humanity) and making generous donations to the Canadian Cancer Society to help fund more cancer research and programs for Canadian’s living with Cancer.
In addition to his business acumen and expertise in strategy and execution, Chandran is a strong believer in leading by example and is highly regarded by his employees for his attention to coaching and mentorship. He is well known for taking the time to mentor emerging entrepreneurs and helping further develop their skills. Chandran has given his commitment to improving the economic levers of the Tamil Canadian community through his mentorship and generosity.
